The 4 Core Lifts

These four barbell movements form the foundation of the Starting Strength programme. Together they train every major muscle group in your body using natural, functional movement patterns. Pedro coaches each lift with care, precision and patience - no matter your age or experience level.

Squat

The most important exercise in the programme. The barbell squat trains your legs, hips and back in one movement, building the strength you need for everything from climbing stairs to playing sport. Clients with knee and back pain often find it improves as they get stronger.

Man performing a barbell deadlift with proper coached form

Deadlift

Simply picking a loaded barbell up off the floor. The deadlift strengthens your entire back, hips and grip - the muscles that protect your spine and keep you capable in daily life. It's the most natural movement there is, and one of the most rewarding to progress.

Woman performing a barbell bench press with proper coached form

Bench Press

The bench press builds upper body strength through your chest, shoulders and arms. It increases bone density and gives you the pushing strength used in everyday life - from getting up off the floor to improving your golf swing or padel game.

Man performing a barbell overhead press with proper coached form

Overhead Press

Pressing a barbell overhead builds strong, stable shoulders and improves posture. It's essential for shoulder health, reduces pain from desk work or poor posture, and translates directly to better performance in sports like padel, tennis and swimming.
